Small Gardens

Small Gardens is a community development concept that advocates for food sovereignty, health based diets and teaches communities to be active participants in their local food economy by implementing systems to help grow, consume, and sell food within their community.

What we put in our bodies is the foundation of good health. The overall American diet is rich in excess calories, trans and saturated fat, added sugars, and sodium. Diet related ailments include heart disease, cancer, stroke, which are leading causes of death in America.

Small Gardens goal is to revitalize a culture where food is sourced locally, organically, and sustainably to achieve better access to healthy food, promote personal wellness, and create biodiverse ecosystems locally.

The word mark was inspired by the degree symbol. Growing food is as much of a natural, organic practice as it is a meticulous science practice. The goal was to highlight both organic visual traits of gardening and the agricultural science that encompasses exact, natural, economic, and social science.

What is Food Sovereignty?

Food sovereignty is the right to healthy and culturally appropriate food produced through sustainable methods and people’s right to define their own food and agriculture systems. Food sovereignty recognizes access to healthy food as a human right. Small Gardens teaches communities to be active participants in their local food economy by implementing systems to help grow, consume, and sell food within communities.
